Boca de Tomatlan
Boca de Tomatlan (known to locals as simply “Boca,” which means “mouth” in Spanish) is a short distance from Los Arcos Marine Park. Boca de Tomatlan is a small town that started as a fishing village. The beach has several restaurants and a small pier. This is the principal water taxi departure point for pangas (small water taxi boats) going South Shore for destinations such as Quimixto, Las Animas and Yelapa. The southern coast road ends here in Boca Tomatlan. Boca is the last coastal community you can reach before the highway heads up into the Sierra Madre and Sierra Cuale mountains
Boca de Tomatlan is one of Vallarta’s best kept secrets! …Not to be confused with Boca de Tomates (which is a bit north of the Airport on the other side of the mouth of the Pitillal River and Nuevo Vallarta).

The only way to get to Las Animas is by water taxi or private yacht. Many of our past guests have always enjoyed a visit to Las Animas and along the way we will pass by the world famous Los Arcos rock formations which are absolutely gorgeous and always a place for a great photo. Next you will pass the towns of Mismaloya and Boca de Tomatlan before arriving in Las Animas.
Las Animas has become quite a busy beach village with the water taxis loading and unloading passengers throughout the day as they transport them back and forth between Puerto Vallarta and the beaches and towns up and down Banderas Bay including Quimixto , Majahuitas and Yelapa.
The Water taxis almost always stop at Las Animas on the way between Yelapa and Puerto Vallarta.
Colomitos Cove
Another attraction while in this area is Colomitos Cove. This cove is a 5 minute in panga ride to the west of Boca de Tomatlan. This small and hidden space, is one of the favorite secluded jems in the area, with barely 30 yards of sand, Colomitos is one of the most intimate and cozy you’ll find near Puerto Vallarta.
Colomitos offers crystal clear water, white warm sand and is an ideal place for swimming, kayaking, snorkeling, diving or just sunbathing.
Ocean Grill Restaurant
Another one of the attractions in Colomitos is Ocean Grill Restaurant, not only does it offer a fantastic view of the ocean, beach and cove, it’s considered one of the best restaurants in all the Banderas Bay area so, you if are this close… it is a great chance to make your trip even more memorable. Keep in mind that you need to make a reservation in advance for Ocean Grill Restaurant.
