The name Majahuitas’ comes from “Majahua Tree” which was actually the original name of the beach, a traditional local tree with large leaves that can grow right by the edge of the ocean and is commonly found on many beaches of the southern side of the Banderas Bay. A lot of local kids used to use them to make toy bows (for bows and arrows), because they are soft and easy to carve while humid and become tougher and elastic when dry.

Banderas Bay is well known for its big game fish like Yellowfin Tuna, Black and Blue Marlin, Dorado and Sailfish. There are also many other fish specie such as Rooster fish, or Jack Crevalle, there are also several bottom fish like Red snapper and Grouper that can be found offshore along the rocky reefs & shorelines with plenty of other small species like Bonitas and Spanish Mackeral.
If you want to catch the really big game fish then we have to go offshore a ways, this is where we can get the very large Marlin and Yellow-fin Tuna, Dorado and Sailfish.
Probably the best fishing for the most extreme fishermen is an area that stretches for 30 to 150 miles northwest of Puerto Vallarta, the first area is called El Morro. It is about 30 miles out and has plenty of deep water out here. And from there we have La Corbetena to EL Banco which are about 50 miles out. Theses areas are some of the best fishing in the world, these areas sometimes pull in 500 kilo plus tuna and many other great sport fish.
