The Puerto Vallarta Zoo is unique from other zoos because it is an interactive zoo. This zoo lets you to be much closer to the animals than what is normally allowed. Zoológico de Vallarta is located in the town of Mismaloya (near where The Night of the Iguana was filmed) right in the middle of the mountains and by the river. It is in an exotic lush tropical jungle, a pleasant natural area for a great, fun, and educational family outing.
How to get to the zoo?
Automobile: Take the highway to Barra de Navidad, at a the entrance of hotel "Barceló la joya de Mismaloya", just turn into the deviation that is to the left side and runs parallel to the river, after having traveled 800 meters you will find The Zoológico de Vallarta.
Public transportation: There is one bus that departs from downtown Puerto Vallarta via Mismaloya at the intersection of Basilio Badillo and Insurgentes, the bus stop that leads to The Zoológico de Vallarta A.C. stops on the highway at the entrance to Hotel Barcelo. Cross the street and follow the road closest to the river 800 meters and there you have arrived.
The Zoologico de Vallarta is home to more than 700 different reptile, bird and mammal species. Can you imagine feeding a giraffe or petting a baby tiger? The possibilities are endless and everybody has a great time here.
Be sure to take lots of photos and videos. Also, you should wear good walking shoes because there is lots of walking required! Be sure to wash up after petting all the animals and bring some insect repellent just in case. Have a super fun day!
