A popular destination when you book with Yacht Charters Puerto Vallarta is the small town of Quimixto, life at a chilled and much slower pace. We have had many stops in this small village of just 423 residents. Quimixto is part of the Cabo Corrientes municipality in the State of Jalisco.
Quimixto has a beautiful beach and is well known for boaters and hikers because of its location, right between Las Ánimas and Majahuitas which makes it an easy destination for a day charter with us. It also is quite popular with tourists because of the water taxi service from Yelapa and Puerto Vallarta. This is a regular stop for the local water taxis.
The beach is beautiful with soft waves hitting the shore. The waters are extremely calm there and the waters are very clear which makes it a great spot for snorkeling and diving. The beach is fairly narrow at only 75 feet wide and approx. 2000 feet long. This small village has a dock to make it easy for our tenders to bring you into shore where you will find local seafood and Mexican restaurants with simple but tasty local dishes and of course your favorite drinks. Great for a quick look before or after the waterfalls.
The waterfalls are definitely the most popular tourist attraction in Quimixto located about a mile hike inland following the La Puerta River's edges. Some find the hike a bit much so horses are rented out for all those not willing to take the approx. 20 minute hike along the river. During the rainy season, be careful with the currents at the waterfall.
Around the area you will also find a large variety of sea birds, including pelicans, seagulls and herons, with ducks in the river and during your hike or ride to the falls you will see iguanas, coatimundi, raccoons, opossums, parrots and with some luck even a deer.
You can also take a walk into the small sleepy fishing village, do not blink or you will miss it, only 400 residents with some small stores and others offering souvenirs, t-shirts, sombreros and other beach gear. If you look hard enough and ask around you may even find some good homemade raicilla, but drink with moderation! This is the Indian moonshine and it will get you flying!
Quimixto is also a great place to stop during your charter and if you are a surfer, the waves are nice between October and April, there are even competitions that are held here regularly. The captain & crew will assist you with everything and we provide everything including paddle boards, kayaks and snorkel equipment so all you need to do is enjoy your day.
